What the NFL + YouTube math equals for Fan Base Creators

In December of 2022, the NFL +YouTube math equation was introduced to the class. On the chalkboard to those of us that were actually paying attention. Starting next season, NFL Sunday Ticket will be available on two of YouTube’s growing subscription businesses as an add-on package on YouTube TV and standalone a-la-carte on YouTube Primetime Channels. What does this mean for Fan Base Creators?

Starting February ’23 YouTube Shorts will begin allowing advertisements to be featured in them. Earlier this month I went into detail about why YouTube Shorts are important to small businesses and personal brands. For NFL Fan Base Creators this shift in streaming the NFL’s content presents an opportunity.

“We’re excited to bring NFL Sunday Ticket to YouTube TV and YouTube Primetime Channels and usher in a new era of how fans across the United States watch and follow the NFL,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. “For a number of years we have been focused on increased digital distribution of our games and this partnership is yet another example of us looking towards the future and building the next generation of NFL fans.”

Yesterday I received a call from West Coast Cowboy. We were discussing the current pitfalls of social media platforms like Tik Tok, and how to not focus on just one platform as a Fan Base Creator. He thanked me for teaching him how to get monetized on YouTube years ago. In 2016 we both began this journey of putting out content for free as creators. Then came along the monetization opportunities with Patreon, YouTube, then Facebook & Instagram.

In the chapter on Organized Planning (7) he shares this. “Do not be in too big a hurry to get away from a country whose people willingly, even eagerly, hand over millions of dollars annually for football, baseball, and prize fights.”

Fan Base Creators come in all shapes and sizes, and with their favorite sports teams. When you think about what this statement means it can apply to all creators alike on the YouTube platform.
